Oil / Alkyd Paint Disposal
Mineral spirit solvent based paints known as oil based or alkyd based paints must be disposed of professionally because of their high VOC content and resultant flamability. You cannot dry the paint and dispose of it yourself like latex paint. Oil based paint must be specially processed for disposal.

Proper Disposal of Latex-Based Paint
CCSWMD does not accept latex paint for recycling.
The best way to dispose of leftover paint is to use it up! Apply an extra coat, paint a sign or dog house, or use it as a primer coat if appropriate. Give it to a friend, neighbor, or relative to use. Dried-up latex paint can be disposed of in the trash. Place the cans in a trash bag for disposal.
Use the Following Procedure to Air-Dry Latex Paint
Remove the lid from the latex paint can.
To speed up solidification, add absorbent materials such as cat litter, plaster of paris, vermiculite or charcoal.
Place can in an area with adequate air flow and protected from rain, such as a well-ventilated garage or shed. This should be well out of reach of children or pets.
When latex paint is completely dry, put the cans - with lids off - into trash bags. They are then safe to dispose of in your regular trash.
REMEMBER: NEVER THROW AWAY PAINT THAT IS STILL IN A LIQUID STATE!
